Choosing between a group seat and a private boat

Every tour on this page runs on the same fleet out of Split with the same skippers. What changes is who else is on board and who decides the day. A group departure sells individual seats on a fixed itinerary — twelve guests maximum, a set departure time, and a route that does not bend. A private charter is the whole boat: your group, your start time, and a skipper who will happily spend an extra hour at a cove your children refuse to leave.

The arithmetic crosses over at around six to eight people. Six guests on a €119 group tour is €714, which already sits inside private-charter pricing, and the charter buys a pace nobody else votes on. Below that number the group departure is better value and you get the sociable version of the day.

For a first visit with one free day, the Blue Cave and 5 Island tour is the one to book — it covers the most ground and the most contrast in a single ten-hour run. If you have half a day, or small children, the Blue Lagoon and Trogir trip is the calmer, shallower, shorter alternative and it leaves an afternoon free for Diocletian's Palace.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a group tour and a private boat tour?

A group tour sells you a seat on a fixed itinerary — up to 12 guests, a set departure time, priced per person. A private tour is the whole boat: your group only, your departure time, and a skipper who will change the route on the day. Group seats start at €90 per person, private charters at €700 per boat.

How many people fit on a private boat charter from Split?

Up to 12 guests on one boat. Larger groups run on two boats with two skippers, arranged as a single booking so everyone stays together at each stop.

When does a private boat tour become cheaper than buying seats?

At around six to eight people, depending on the route. Six guests on a €119 group tour is €714, which is already inside private-charter territory — and the charter adds your own departure time and itinerary.

Which tour should I book if I only have one day in Split?

The Blue Cave and 5 Island tour. It is ten hours and covers the Blue Cave on Biševo, Stiniva on Vis, Budikovac lagoon, Hvar town and a swim off Brač. If you only have half a day, the Blue Lagoon and Trogir trip runs mornings and afternoons.

Do the tours run in bad weather?

Only when it is safe. The skipper decides on the morning, and if the day cannot run you move to another date or get a full refund. The Blue Cave has an extra condition: the Biševo authority closes it when there is swell at the entrance, in which case the route is changed rather than cancelled.

What is included in the price?

Skipper and sailor, the boat and all fuel, mooring fees, travel insurance, snorkel gear, wind jackets and bottled water. Not included: the Blue Cave entrance fee on Biševo, lunch and drinks ashore.
