Blue Cave Tour Booking: How Early Should You Book?

A clear, month-by-month guide to how far in advance you should book the Blue Cave 5 Island Tour from Split — for group, private, peak season, shoulder season, and weekends.

The short answer

For peak season (July and August), book the group tour 4 to 6 weeks ahead and the private tour 6 to 8 weeks ahead.

For shoulder season (May, June, September, October), book the group tour 1 to 3 weeks ahead and the private tour 3 to 5 weeks ahead.

For weekends in any season, add a week of lead time. For Italian holiday weeks (Ferragosto in mid-August, Easter), add another week.

July and August — peak demand

Demand is at its highest. Group tours fill up 4 to 6 weeks ahead for weekends, 2 to 3 weeks for weekdays.

Private tours fill faster — 6 to 8 weeks for weekends, 4 to 6 weeks for weekdays.

Last-minute (within 7 days) is risky in July and August. Sometimes possible if a cancellation opens up, but not reliable.

For Italian Ferragosto week (around 15 August), add an extra week of lead time. Italian travellers book Croatia early.

Peak-season Blue Cave 5 Island Tour speedboat fully booked

June and September — shoulder demand

Group: 2 to 3 weeks lead time, 3 to 4 weeks for weekends.

Private: 3 to 5 weeks, 4 to 6 weeks for weekends.

Late June and early September are the busiest shoulder weeks — book toward the longer end.

May and October — easy booking

Group: 1 to 2 weeks usually fine, longer for weekends.

Private: 2 to 3 weeks.

Walk-up bookings (within 48 hours) are possible in low-shoulder season but never guaranteed. WhatsApp the operator the day before — sometimes a cancellation opens a seat.

April and November — fringe season

Tours run less frequently. Bookings are more about confirming the operator is running than about competing for seats.

Book 1 to 2 weeks ahead and accept that weather may reschedule.

The hidden timing constraint — weather

Tours can be cancelled by weather even if you booked 6 weeks ahead. Always have a backup day in your Split itinerary if your trip is short.

A flexible operator reschedules to your next available day if the cave is closed. Confirm this policy when booking.

Booking the Blue Cave tour via WhatsApp from Split

How to actually book

WhatsApp is the fastest. One message with your dates, group size, and tour preference. Most operators respond within an hour during business hours.

The website booking form is fine for advance bookings but slower for confirmation.

For private boats, WhatsApp first to check availability before paying. Private bookings sometimes need a phone conversation to finalise details.

Common timing mistakes

Waiting until the week of travel in July or August. Frequently too late.

Booking the wrong day of the week without checking weather. Tuesday might be flat calm, Saturday a Bura day. Be ready to shift.

Booking through a cheap aggregator that does not transfer payment to the operator until 24 hours before — sometimes the operator does not even know you exist until then. Book directly when possible.

Forgetting that group tours have minimum participant requirements. Some operators cancel a group tour if fewer than 4 to 6 people book. Book early so the trip is confirmed.
