Why the boat, and not another bar crawl

Split has plenty of bars and every stag group finds them without help. What the city does not hand you is a day where twelve people are in the same place, in a good mood, with nothing to organise. That is what chartering a boat buys — not a party venue, a day that runs itself.

The practical version: you leave the Riva mid-morning, swim somewhere with no one else in it, eat lunch in a harbour that takes forty minutes to reach by road and eight by sea, and arrive in Hvar in the early evening without having queued for a ferry. The skipper handles the sea, the timing and the mooring. Nobody in the group has to be the organiser for a whole day, which is usually the best gift you can give the person organising it.

It also solves the problem every Split stag runs into eventually — Hvar is where the night is, and the last ferry back leaves earlier than the night ends.

What the day actually looks like

There is no fixed itinerary on a private charter, which is the point. This is the shape most groups end up with, and the skipper adjusts it on the water.

Late morning from the Split Riva, because nobody on a stag weekend is boarding a boat at seven. First stop is a swim somewhere sheltered — the Blue Lagoon at Krknjaši if the group wants shallow and warm, a Šolta cove if they want deep water and quiet. An hour, sometimes two, depending on how the group is doing.

Lunch is either a konoba in Maslinica or Milna, or on board if somebody organised food. Afternoon is a second swim, a run past the WWII submarine tunnel on Brač if the group is into that, and then across to Hvar.

Hvar in the evening: the boat moors, you go ashore, and the skipper is there when you come back. That last part is the whole reason to do it by boat.

What it costs, without the runaround

The boat is priced as a boat, not per head. **€700 to €1,300 depending on the route and the length of the day**, for up to twelve people. Skipper, sailor, fuel, mooring fees, insurance, snorkel gear and water are in that number.

Split across a group, that is **€58 to €108 each** at twelve people. For comparison, twelve seats on a shared tour is €1,428 and you spend the day with strangers on somebody else's schedule. Past about seven people the private boat is simply the cheaper option as well as the better one.

Not included: food and drinks ashore, and anything you buy in Hvar. Bring cash for lunch — several of the good konobas are cash-only.

A 15% deposit holds the date. The balance is settled on the day, and one person can pay the deposit while the group sorts itself out later.

Drinks, music and what the skipper will not do

Bring what you want to drink. There is a cooler on board and a Bluetooth speaker, and nobody is going to tell your group to keep it down at a swim stop in the middle of the Adriatic.

Two honest limits. **No glass** — it breaks, it ends up in the water and in feet, so cans and plastic only. And the skipper decides what happens on the water: if the sea turns, the route changes, and if someone is in no state to be swimming off a boat, they stay on the boat. That is not us being difficult, it is the one part of the day nobody gets to vote on.

Beyond that it is your boat for the day. Most groups are surprised how little the crew interferes.

Twelve, or more than twelve

One boat takes twelve guests comfortably. Larger groups run on two boats with two skippers, booked as a single reservation so both boats keep the same route and stop at the same places at the same time — which matters more than it sounds when half the group is on the other boat.

We can arrange up to three boats. Beyond about twenty-four people the day stops being one party and becomes three, so at that size it is worth a conversation before booking rather than after.

When to book, and what the weather does

June to September is stag season in Split and the good dates go early — for a Saturday in July, six to eight weeks ahead is not too soon. May and late September are quieter, cheaper ashore, and the sea is still perfectly swimmable.

On weather: the skipper decides on the morning. If the day cannot run safely you move it to another date or take a full refund. Nobody has ever been talked into going out in conditions that would ruin the day.

One planning tip that saves groups a lot of grief — do not book the boat for the last day of the trip. Leave a spare day behind it so a weather move is an inconvenience rather than a miss.
